1999 Santa Monica to Santa Fe

I made a lot of work in 1999 that I still really like. I made a series of paintings early in the year that I started out thinking of as the Pearl series, but they were all subsequently renamed. I then did a transitional series, not shown here, that I based in Gallup/Window Rock and then the Santa Fe Series. It's amazing to me when I see them all together how the light and colors change as I migrate from Santa Monica through Gallup to Santa Fe. Here are some of the Santa Monica pieces and some of the (Untitled) Santa Fe pieces:

Starry Night

Through the Light (of Change)

Sea Monster

Early Work from 1998

Pearl Series triptych detail

Pearl Series Triptych detail

Pearl Series Triptych, 48" x 16" each

Sea of Change

Net Work

Emerging Life

Ebb and Flow

These are some more early paintings, I think circa 1998. They still have some of that raw quality of the early pieces that I mentioned last time. I'll have to see if my hard drive recovery saved any more of the older pieces.

Origins of the Species (Earliest Work)

Untitled

Watermelon Fish

World Ovulation

Her Dreams Changed

These are four of the first five pieces I made in 1997, when I started making this work. They have a rather raw quality to them that I've since lost and would like to get back. I can't seem to find the fifth piece, I'll keep looking.
